LOEWE, in celebration of the Year of the Snake, not only presents a special edition Lunar New Year collection but also showcases the short film “Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake,” which praises the beauty of traditional Chinese craftsmanship, symbolizing the auspiciousness of the divine snake and the hope for peace and prosperity in the nation.
LOEWE, which has always focused on artisanal craftsmanship, creates a special Lunar New Year collection each year to celebrate the values of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. In the past two years, they have launched a monochrome glazed porcelain collection and a jade collection. This year, they center on the ancient Cloisonné enamel technique and have specially collaborated with Chinese master craftsman and third-generation enamel artisan Xiong Songtao to create two exquisite Cloisonné pieces.
In ancient times, Cloisonné was a prized treasure for the imperial court, with a production process that was highly complex. Artisans would meticulously shape copper wire into various designs on a metal base, then fill them with colored glaze before firing. Known for its vibrant colors and exquisite patterns, Cloisonné is a model of Chinese enamel craftsmanship.
This special edition Lunar New Year collection features the Nest handbag adorned with a gold chain snake head lotus cloisonné pendant, along with snake, monkey, and auspicious cloud gold chain cloisonné pendants. Cloisonné also serves as inspiration for ready-to-wear apparel, footwear, accessories, and a range of special edition handbags. The new tote bags take the form of auspicious clouds and coiling snakes, while the classic Puzzle and Pebble Bucket bags are embellished with three-dimensional auspicious cloud patterns and adorned with jewelry-like snake chains.
Also debuting alongside the Lunar New Year series is the short film “Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake,” which showcases Chinese modern dance, traditional kite-making, and shadow puppetry, celebrating the arrival of the new year. Renowned Chinese dancer Xie Xin and her troupe perform, telling the story of a lonely snake that is taken away by the animals of the forest to welcome the arrival of spring. The film also features the puppet shadow play created by Chinese artist Shen Xintong, as well as the snake-shaped props made by Zhang Xiaodong, a national-level inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Weifang kite-making.
