Snake King Fen Celebrates 130th Anniversary with Traditional Cantonese Cuisine in Central Hong Kong

This year, the legendary Snake King Fen celebrates its 130th anniversary as the oldest snake soup establishment in Central. To mark the occasion, they are launching Sweet, sour, bitter, spicy—experience the taste of life’s ups and downs with our Cantonese Bento Box, where bitterness gives way to sweetness. and a limited menu that brings traditional flavors to the tastebud memories of the younger generation. From now until August 31, they will offer 18 classic rice dishes for lunch, including Fujian Fried Rice, Scallop Egg White Ginger Fried Rice, Bitter Melon Fish in Black Bean Sauce Rice, and Dry-fried Beef Rice Noodles, each priced at $130. This is a chance to relive the vibrant lunchtime atmosphere once experienced by workers and locals at the Central pier.

Sweet, Sour, Bitter, Spicy Bento offers an exquisite eight-course tasting menu that captures the essence of life’s flavors, featuring dishes like the Tai Shi Snake Soup, Yuen Yong Sticky Rice, Spicy Salted Abalone, Hawthorn Plum Lychee Gold Ribs, and Fresh Fruit Sweet Soup with Mini Watermelon Snake Wine. This culinary journey reflects the resilient spirit of Hong Kongers over four generations, facing challenges across different eras. The fourth generation heir, Gigi, contributes to the menu design, incorporating her parents’ favorite tastes into the details, ensuring the family legacy and the warmth of the Hong Kong dining experience continue.

In celebration of its 130th anniversary, She Wong Fen has teamed up with the local brand Wu Wei Za Chen to launch a unique cocktail featuring honeysuckle and chrysanthemum. This refreshing drink is crafted using She Wong Fen’s own brewed honeysuckle and chrysanthemum tea as the base, complemented by hibiscus, ginning liquor, and angelica, resulting in a sweet and tangy flavor. It’s presented with a graphic made from plum powder in the shape of snake or Double Happiness, perfect for capturing Instagram-worthy moments. There’s also a non-alcoholic version of the cocktail available, allowing everyone to enjoy this refreshing blend of local creativity and herbal aromas during the hot summer days.

During the summer, Snake King Fen will host a busking street music performance on Gough Street in Central, collaborating with local musicians to inject a youthful vibe through live music. They will also serve egg waffles and cocktails, creating a new bridge that connects street culture with century-old establishments, filling the nights in Central with warmth and musical rhythm.

Focusing on the extraordinary, we have exclusively launched the liver sausage egg waffle and the dried tangerine peel egg waffle, reimagining the beloved street snacks that Hongkongers know best. The egg waffle features a crispy exterior and a soft interior, delivering a delightful fusion of liver sausage’s rich aroma and the refreshing fragrance of tangerine peel, with each bite offering distinct layers of flavor. Priced at $35 each, the original egg waffle is available for $28. These treats are served daily from 12:30 PM to 7 PM, and customers can even get hands-on with the making process, creating lasting memories of that classic old-school taste in an interactive way.

Led by the current Executive Chef Ren Jinsong, the kitchen team is known for its traditional open-fire broth and authentic sauce techniques. Having been recommended by Michelin for seven consecutive years, the restaurant continues to uphold the traditional methods that present the original flavors of Cantonese cuisine.
