Legendary Conversations in the Film Industry! Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton X renowned Hong Kong director Tong Shu-suen, in an M+ cross-time dialogue on screen.

To complement the M+ cinema program "Tilda Swinton: The World in Motion," M+ is pleased to invite renowned actress Tilda Swinton and one of Hong Kong's first female directors, Tammy Tang, to engage in a conversation themed "Why is Film Restoration Important? A Dialogue between Tilda Swinton and Tammy Tang." The discussion will focus on the transformative power of film works and creations, sharing their journeys as directors, audiences, and film enthusiasts.

Mentioning Tilda Swinton may evoke images of the Ancient One from Marvel stories, or remind you of her ethereal, elegant, and androgynous appearance and aura. Whether as an individual, performer, or filmmaker, she embodies an unconventional courage, a strong personal charm, and immense talent, consistently presenting audiences with new artistic dimensions through her avant-garde perspective.

Looking back at Tilda Swinton’s impressive acting career, one cannot overlook her early collaborations with art films; she has received numerous awards over the years, including the Academy Award and the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress. Beyond her acting achievements, she is also dedicated to promoting film restoration and preservation.

One of Hong Kong’s first female directors, TANG Shu-yan, gained international fame when she first took to directing. Her debut film, “Mrs. Dong” (1969), was one of the earliest films produced outside of the mainstream film industry in Hong Kong and distributed independently. She went on to make three more films, including “Goodbye China” (1974), “Thirteen Not Connected” (1975), and “The Nouveau Riche” (1979).

To complement the M+ cinema program “Tilda Swinton: The World in Motion,” M+ is excited to invite Tilda Swinton and Tang Shuxuan to engage in a dialogue titled “Why is Film Restoration Important? A Conversation Between Tilda Swinton and Tang Shuxuan.” This discussion will focus on the transformative power of film works and creation, sharing their journeys as directors, audiences, and film enthusiasts.

This rare art dialogue is supported by M+’s main partner, CHANEL. However, with the support of CHANEL, M+ will restore nine Hong Kong films, reflecting the shared vision of both parties to cultivate creativity and critical thinking, contributing to the development of moving images in Asia and around the world.
