Fernando Jorge: Redefining Jewelry with Brazilian Roots and Avant-Garde Craftsmanship

Hailing from South America’s Brazil, jewelry designer Fernando Jorge established his eponymous jewelry brand in London, UK, in 2010. Known for his uniquely unforgettable style, Fernando Jorge quickly captured the spotlight. Over the years, his designs have garnered immense popularity among numerous Hollywood stars, cementing his status as one of the hottest rising stars in the jewelry industry. With a modern avant-garde aesthetic, Jorge’s creations broke away from traditional jewelry conventions, propelling his brand to prominence. In 2014, he was honored with the Emerging Designer at the British Fashion Awards Award by the British Fashion Council, praised as a master of blending bold urban vibes with the essence of nature. This marked the debut of a distinctive fine jewelry collection featuring a one-of-a-kind artistic touch.

Fernando Jorge pursued a master’s degree in jewelry design at Central St. Martin. His creations exude the passion and spontaneity of a South American spirit, while maintaining an air of elegance.

JOYCE at Pacific Place, Admiralty, is exclusively hosting Fernando Jorge’s latest collection showcase, featuring Sync, Fluid, High Fluid, Aerial, Brilliant, Parallel, and Surround. These collections are crafted with precious materials, including 18K gold, diamonds, mother-of-pearl, and imperial topaz, perfectly highlighting Jorge’s signature approach to organic forms and exquisite craftsmanship. Taking advantage of this opportunity, ZTYLEZ was fortunate enough to have an exclusive one-on-one conversation with Fernando Jorge.

Z: Your designs and sketches are drawn in the London studio and then produced in Brazil. Why did you choose to work between these two locations?

F: Before moving to London to focus on designing my own collection, I worked as a jewelry designer in Brazil for nearly a decade. Over the years, I encountered incredibly talented artisans and discovered a fascinating world of Brazilian gemstones worth exploring. Brazil’s manufacturing industry has become an integral part of my creative process, not just for the sake of convenience, but as a way to enrich the dialogue within my work.

Z: The material you use is Standard material, which has become mainstream in Brazil due to its abundant resources. What is this material? What makes it special to you and your jewelry design?

F: Besides Paraiba tourmalines, imperial topazes, and emeralds, Brazil is also the largest source of a variety of other minerals. From vividly colored citrines and amethysts to agates, opals, and quartz, these gemstones often get overlooked despite their beauty due to their abundance. Stunning stones are frequently crafted into chessboards or parrots as souvenirs. Through my work, I aim to breathe new life into these materials. They allow me to explore larger-scale sculptural forms, and I find their dirty tones particularly captivating.

Z: Where does your inspiration come from?

F: When I look back at the past, the present, and everything around me, inspiration comes pouring in when I find balance—when new ideas feel like a natural progression of what I’ve always been doing.

Z: You’ve incorporated an abundance of fluid lines and curvilinear forms rather than structured shapes. What inspired this distinctive liquid aesthetic?

F: The curves and fluid lines embody my Brazilian roots. They evoke memories of Brazil’s natural landscapes, bare bodies on the beach, an underlying sensuality, and a laid-back attitude. People often hold an idealized view of Brazil, but beneath these stereotypes lie many truths. What began as a playful association later evolved into the subject of my Master’s degree. To refine these ideas and strike a balance between provocation and elegance, I dedicated extensive effort and research.

Z: What kind of women do you think would wear your creations?

When I design, I don’t just have one type of femininity in mind. I learn by observing all the fascinating women around me and strive to create pieces that suit each of them.

Z: Which of your designs is your favorite?

F: In every collection, there are pieces I feel particularly proud of. The Fluid Chandelier earrings, Electric Bolt earrings, and the newest wooden series—all these challenging concepts have been successfully transformed into jewelry pieces, defining my work.
