Experience Hong Kong’s Nostalgic 1980s Themed Buffet at Café Kool in Kowloon Shangri-La

Café Kool, located in the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel, has launched a brand new themed buffet inspired by the golden age of Hong Kong in the 1980s. The restaurant’s decor cleverly incorporates vintage neon lights, wooden window frames, and street sign elements, creating a rich nostalgic atmosphere. Guests can immerse themselves in the charm of old Hong Kong while savoring over 200 authentic local delicacies, reliving the flavors of yesteryear.

The dining options feature an array of classic Hong Kong-style stir-fries and seafood dishes. The signature Typhoon Shelter Stir-Fried Lobster showcases succulent lobster stir-fried with fragrant garlic and chili, filling the air with an irresistible aroma. Garlic Vermicelli Steamed Lobster takes fresh lobster and steams it with garlic and glass noodles, drizzled with a house-special soy sauce for an explosion of flavor. The on-site grilled Garlic Butter Pan-Seared Prawns, Baked scallops with mentaiko sauce, and Pan-Seared Wagyu Cubes are visually and tastefully appealing, making them the perfect photo ops.

In addition, Roasted Pigeon is traditionally prepared, with a truffle version available as well; the braised items include five-spice beef shank, duck tongues, and a refreshing mix of cloud ears, cucumber, and jellyfish, offering a rich and palate-cleansing experience. Familiar Hong Kong dishes such as Little Fry King, Orange Pork Ribs, and Stir-fried Pork Neck with XO Sauce and Green Beans are also served at different times, adding an element of surprise.

The buffet also retains the signature seafood platter that Café Kool is known for, featuring unlimited all-day offerings of Boston lobster, snow crab legs, breaded crab, New Zealand green-lipped mussels, and jade snails, allowing seafood lovers to indulge in fresh flavors to their heart’s content. As for sushi and sashimi, the standout Grilled Salmon Roe Sushi and Salmon Roe Assorted Sashimi Rice Bowl are not only visually appealing but satisfying, complemented by tri-colored fish roe, delivering a feast for the senses.

The desserts are truly thoughtful, featuring not only classic mango pudding and mango sago, but also the freshly baked Mini Bird’s Nest Egg Tart available every hour, which is crispy without being heavy. The buffet also includes a full range of Hong Kong-style sweet treats like red bean paste, sugar cakes, and jelly, perfectly wrapping up the dining experience with a sweet finale.

Whether it’s a family gathering or a meal with elders, you can enjoy authentic flavors at an affordable price.
