As the classic comic “Fengyun,” a collective memory of Hong Kong people, celebrates its 35th anniversary, the Hong Kong Dance Company once again collaborates with the original author, Ma Wing-shing, to reintroduce this once-popular martial arts dance drama. This is not only an eagerly awaited reprise but also a brand-new artistic feast that takes everyone back to a world filled with dazzling fantasy and wondrous martial arts imagination.
The clash of swords stirs cold, piercing splashes of water, slicing through the brotherly bond between the two heroes. On stage, Bu Jingyun and Nie Feng engage in a fierce battle, while Kong Ci dances gracefully in a delicate veil, entwined in a romantic duet, as the intricate ambiguity of a love triangle unfolds… Blending dance, comics, drama, and martial arts, the Hong Kong comic martial arts dance drama “Feng Yun” garnered three awards at the “Hong Kong Dance Awards 2015,” and now, ten years have swiftly passed.
In preparation for this grand event, over a year of planning has gone into it. This performance is not only a reinterpretation of a classic work but also a significant breakthrough in the intersection of art and technology — supported by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s “Art and Technology Funding Pilot Scheme,” allowing the Hong Kong Dance Company to collaborate with the local top-notch technology art team, Don’t Believe In Style (DBIS). Utilizing innovative technologies such as multimedia projection, lighting effects, electronic music, and a water stage design, it breaks the boundaries of time and space, delivering a breathtaking spectacle that vividly reconstructs the imaginative world of comics, sure to leave both comic and dance enthusiasts in awe!
In addition to the stage performance, there will be a special event titled “Dancing with ‘Feng Yun’: Hong Kong Comics ✕ Dance ✕ Light and Shadow Experience.” It features a 270 degree curved immersive interactive time corridor of ‘Feng Yun,’ allowing the audience to personally experience classic scenes, inherit unique martial arts, and witness Mr. Ma Rongsheng’s brand new hand-painted work, “Angry Sea,” in a three-dimensional dynamic image, recreating the intense rivalry between Nie Feng, Bu Jingyun, and Xiong Ba.
This is an unmissable opportunity for comic fans and dance enthusiasts alike to hold their breath in anticipation and fully immerse themselves in this visual feast. Under the night lights of Victoria Harbour, let’s come together to experience this artistic event that transcends time and space, rediscovering the charm and passion of “Wind and Cloud”!
