The Birth of the GMT-Master Watch

The birth of the GMT-Master watch traces back to the booming era of intercontinental aviation in the 1950s, a time when people could swiftly cross multiple time zones and reach distant destinations. To cater to the needs of global travelers, Rolex introduced the GMT-Master watch, equipped with a precise and reliable movement and a 24-hour hand, making it easy for wearers to read the time in a second time zone. The iconic design featuring a two-colored 24-hour bezel has become a hallmark of the GMT-Master timepiece.

Over the years, the GMT-Master watch has undergone numerous enhancements, with the bezel materials evolving from plastic glass to aluminum, and then to ceramic, offering a richer and more diverse color palette. In 2021, the Chromalight luminescence was also improved, with the watch hands and hour markers coated in luminescent material that emits a strong blue light in the dark, making the dial clearer and easier to read. The movement has seen eleven optimizations, transitioning from the 1036 GMT movement of 1955 to the current 3285 movement. Launched in 1982, the 3085 movement featured an independently adjustable hour hand, and to highlight this technological innovation, the models equipped with the new movement were renamed GMT-Master II.

Whether on land, at sea, or in the air, the GMT-Master watch embodies its essence with outstanding performance and reliability, making it the ultimate companion for connecting the world and exploring the unknown. Watch enthusiasts planning to visit Macau in July, make sure not to miss the exhibition!
