Art Central 2025 celebrates its tenth year, continuing to create a multimedia art feast, with featured artists making an early appearance!

In the dazzling constellation of Hong Kong Art Week, Art Central has always been noted for its forward-looking perspective and diverse curatorial approach. This year, celebrating its tenth anniversary, it showcases a more experimental array of multimedia art projects, highlighting the infinite possibilities of contemporary art.

In terms of scale, Art Central 2025 brings together over 500 artists from more than 40 countries and regions, showcasing the diversity of contemporary art through the exhibitions of more than 100 galleries. From large-scale installations to video art, from narrative performances to interactive installations, the boundaries of art are melting away, and the barriers of materials are continually being challenged. Art Central 2025 promises an unprecedented cross-media art feast for the audience.

Curated by Aaditya Sathish, this exhibition not only continues its mission of promoting contemporary Asian art but also carves out a dialogue space between tradition and the avant-garde through innovative curatorial thinking.

The highlight is the large installation work “A Brazen Rift (After Branzi)” by Hong Kong artist Donatien. This piece cleverly pays homage to the Italian master architect Andrea Branzi, while also showcasing the artist’s unique interpretation of urban space. It is not only a reconstruction of space but also a philosophical reflection on modern urban life, presenting the artist’s keen observation of the city’s pulse.

In the realm of visual arts, the specially established Cinema Central at the exhibition will showcase selected works from the Akeroyd Collection. From Taiwanese artist Cheng Shu-Li’s exploration of the internet age in “Virus Becoming,” to Hong Kong artist Kwan Ka-Che’s focus on marginalized groups in “You Don’t Know Me, But…,” each piece challenges the audience’s visual experience and habitual way of thinking.

Notably, this year’s exhibition introduces a performance project titled “In Search of the Miraculous,” which brings together several emerging Asian artists. These include Singaporean artist Foo Sui-Hsuan, who explores East Asian women’s digital imagery in her work “In the Shadow of the Cosmic,” and Hong Kong artist Chan Tsz-Wen, who reinterprets the aesthetics of B-grade films in Chinese horror cinema with her piece “Our Birthdays (uncut).” This showcases the innovative use of materials and narratives by contemporary artists.

The six-day art festival is not only a reflection on the past decade but also a glimpse into the future of art development. Through transmedia and cross-cultural dialogues, Art Central 2025 will lead audiences to explore new dimensions of contemporary art, witnessing the flourishing growth of the Asian art scene.
