The Max Mara Fall/Winter 2025 fashion show was grandly held today in Milan. Max Mara continues its brand tradition of monochromatic tones: burgundy, black, camel, and a natural cashmere hue. Creative director Ian Griffiths stated that these well-tailored outfits, featuring wool or quilted layers, can traverse the Yorkshire moors or allow one to sleep under the bushes. Of course, this lady is more likely to navigate the corridors of power. “This woman has been climbing the career ladder for years with a cold logic, denying her inner passion, yet in the face of reality, she must find a way to express herself.”

In the story of Max Mara’s 2025 Autumn/Winter collection, the heroine is stylish, confident, and elegant, able to maintain her composure regardless of the circumstances, crafting her own remarkable narrative. Her disciplined restraint earns her success, yet her soul still yearns for a passionate, profound, and captivating romance—much like the world depicted by the Brontë sisters, where light and shadow intertwine, filled with tension.

She read in a book that a woman would rather sleep rough on the desolate moors of Yorkshire than take shelter under the roof of someone whose moral values contradict her own. This intense love is like a roaring gale, sweeping across the bleak land. Back in reality, the heroine of Max Mara doesn’t wander in a bathrobe through the wilderness filled with heather and gorse; instead, she is dressed in a well-tailored suit, confidently navigating the corridors of power. However, her yearning for a new kind of romance also inspires a transformation in style.

Max Mara deftly blends classic aesthetics, neo-Gothic fashion, and urban pastoral style, weaving together a fashion language that embodies both city sophistication and retro charm. The poised restraint of Jane Eyre intertwines with the wild passion of Catherine this season, creating a tension of resilience and will. The equestrian-style women’s coat features a fitted waist design, flaring out into a trumpet shape at the hem, complemented by a detachable quilted lining, leather, or lambswool sleeves that enhance its structured silhouette. The impeccably tailored cropped blazer, adorned with patchwork sleeves, pairs beautifully with fashionable trousers, elongating the leg line. The vest makes a return to the runway in a brand new cropped silhouette, suitable for layering under suits or as a chic base for a tailored coat, showcasing a stylish pastoral vibe.

As a key piece in the collection, the coats are presented in a rich variety of styles, including thick military-inspired coats, double-breasted coats in a British gentleman style, luxurious parkas featuring practical accordion pockets, capes, relaxed and oversized wrap coats, and robe-style outerwear. Some designs even incorporate knitted panels on the back and sleeves, adding a unique texture.

Cascia, a signature hue created by Max Mara, makes its stunning debut, reflecting the rugged rocks and shifting skies of Yorkshire, the homeland of the Brontë sisters. The range of shades, from light to dark, unfolds in delicate double-faced fabrics, lustrous draping materials, and lightweight finely spun wool. The warmth of pure cashmere, soft as skin, accompanies the Max Mara heroine as she confidently meets the challenges of the world, enabling her to maintain her poised elegance even in the face of the most mundane daily life.

The new version of “Wuthering Heights,” directed by Emerald Fennell, is set to premiere next year. Today, the classic work of the Brontë sisters still resonates with contemporary audiences.
